  • Name: Avery, Dorothy "Dottie"
  • Branch: WASP
  • Served: 1943-1944
CONTENTS: Correspondence, postcards, photographs, newsletter and newspaper clippings

ACQUISITION: Purchased from a collector, March 2001

DESCRIPTION: This collection consists of pages from a scrapbook containing letters written by WASP pilot Dorothy Avery to friends and family during her training at Avenger Field, as well as her time as a WASP pilot. According to the Harpoon newsletter in the collection, Dottie went to work at the Navy-Lockheed Service Center as an inspector after the WASP was disbanded.  None of the letters appear to be from that period, with the exception of one postcard, dated June 26, 1945.  The 94 letters are not individually dated but are numbered in the order they were found in the scrapbook. Also included in this collection are 5 postcards, photographs, a newsletter, and newspaper clippings.
