Margaret Elizabeth Munson Sangster (1838-1912) was an American children's author, poet, and editor. The correspondence in this collection dates from 1884 to 1905 and pertains to the authors' work for Ladies Home Journal.

Margaret Elizabeth Munson Sangster (1838-1912) was an author, editor, and poet. She was born in New Rochelle, New York, received her early education in Vienna, and showed signs of literary talent at an early age -- her writing career began when she was sixteen, with the publication of a small collection of religious poems and essays prepared as a Christmas gift for her friends.
Sangster's books were written chiefly for the young, but it was her poetry that assured her reputation as a writer and brought her to the attention of the public. In 1858, she married George Sangster and gave up her writing career, resuming it only after his death in 1871.
Sangster was well known as a book reviewer, due to her experience as assistant editor of Heart and Home magazine, a post she held from 1873 to 1875. She was also editor of the “Little Postmistress” department of Harper’s Young People from 1882 to 1889, and at various times was associated with the Christian at Work, Harper’s Bazaar (1889-1899), the Christian Intelligencer, the Christian Herald, the Ladies’ Home Journal and the Woman’s Home Companion.
The correspondence in this collection includes seven letters and two notes dated 1884-1902 to Ladies’ Home Journal editor Edward Bok and four letters written to Ladies’ Home Journal editor William Alexander dated 1899 to1905. The letters discuss Sangster's contributions to the magazine.
