John H. Beeler, retired Army captain and professor of history at UNCG, began his study of English medieval warfare when he was a graduate student at Cornell University. His Cornell doctoral dissertation was a study of the role of the castle in the military history of England, and this study was expanded in his book, Warfare in England, 1066-1189. Beeler also revised and edited The Art of War in the Middle Ages, by CWC Oman, wrote Warfare in Feudal Europe, 730-1200, and contributed to other scholarly works on military history.
This manuscript is for Warfare in England, 1066-1189; it is an original typescript of 634 p., with handwritten notations and corrections. One galley-proof is for this book; the other for The Art of War in the Middle Ages.
