Lorena Kelly graduated from Woman's College (now UNCG) in 1925 and eventually became an educational missionary in Zaire. This collection contains the original manuscript of Kelly's book I Saw It Happen, a short history of the development of the United Methodist Church among the Atetelo people.

Lorena Kelly (1903-) was born in Iredell County, North Carolina, graduated from Woman's College (now the University of North Carolina at Greensboro) in 1925 and received her master's degree from Scarritt College in Nashville, Tennessee. She taught school and worked as a secretary for several years before becoming an educational missionary in Zaire in 1935.
As a missionary, Kelly opened and directed a home economics school, organized a junior high school for girls, and served as Dean of the Home Economics Department of the Congo Polytechnique for two years. She remained a missionary for 33 years, and wrote two books in the Otetela language: Good Housekeeping, a textbook, and Teach Your Child the Bible.
Original manuscript of Kelly's book I Saw It Happen, published in 1977. The book gives a short history of the development of the United Methodist Church among the Atetelo people. Particular emphasis is given to the lives of girls and women.
