Laura Hill Coit (1875-1944), graduated from the North Carolina Normal and Industrial School (now UNCG) in 1896, and immediately joined the faculty to teach English, physical education and mathematics. From 1901 until her retirement in 1937, she was assistant and secretary to Presidents McIver, Foust and Jackson. She also served as secretary-treasurer and president of the Alumnae Association.
This collection includes six original letters and one carbon copy of a letter. The four early letters (1914-1915, 1922) reflect routine matters dealing with the student loan fund. The three letters dated 1933 and 1936 show President Foust’s concern for the Mary Foust Loan Fund and the problems involved with the construction of the Alumnae House.
