Gifts of Robert Watson and Gibbons Ruark, September 1968.
The Greensboro Reader is an anthology of stories and poems by writers who either received a degree from or were full-time teachers in the English Department of UNCG between 1938 and 1968. It was published by the University of North Carolina Press at Chapel Hill in 1968.
Twelve pieces of fiction and eleven poems are included. Each writer had been previously published. The Greensboro Reader thus drew together in its pages a flourishing community of writers from the South.
The Reader was compiled and edited by Robert Watson and Gibbons Ruark, members of the English faculty at UNCG. One of the editors' aims in compiling this book was to point up the special place given to the creative writing program at UNCG.
The Greensboro Reader Collection dates from 1967 to 1968 and contains correspondence, manuscripts, proofs, and biographical material.
