<head>Biographical Note</head>
<p>Mary Sue Beam of Shelby, North Carolina, attended the North Carolina College for Women (now UNCG) from 1919-1923.  Mary was a member of the Dikean Society and a Charter member of the Tau Pi Delta.  Her freshman year she was Class President, her sophomore year she was on the YWCA Cabinet and was an Intersociety Debater.  Beam was also a speaker at the Baptist Young People's Union Convention in June of 1920. She attended the student conference with the Blue Ridge Association during one of her college summers.  Her junior year she was on the YWCA Cabinet, a Marshal, a member of the House of Representatives, and the International Relations Club.  Her senior year she was in the International Relations Club and the Intersociety Extension Bureau.  She graduated in 1923 with a A.B. Degree from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.</p>

<head>Collection Overview</head>
<p>The scrapbook entitled <title render="italic">My Memory Book: North Carolina College</title> includes a campus poster, photos of classmates, the Blue Ridge Association, Washington D.C., and the North Carolina College for Women campus;  postcards, bills, receipts, journal records, transcripts, University Admission requirements, newspaper clippings, letters, telegrams, invitations, tickets, place cards, classmate autographs, comments and some addresses;  play programs, Graduation Exercises for Class of 1920, Baccalaureate Sermon of 1921, Graduation Sermon of 192 and Class Day Exercises of 1921.  The second scrapbook entitled <title render="italic">Commencement Days</title> was published by Saalfield Publishing Company in Akron, Ohio, and includes clippings, postcards, autographs, place cards, registration, programs, job offers, Class Song of 1923, Annual Concert Program of 1923, Baccalaureate Sermon of 1923, Vesper service of 1923 and Class Day Exercises of 1923.
