 Biographical Note

Nettie Marvin Allen of Henderson, North Carolina, attended the State Normal School (now UNCG) from 1892-1895. She taught at the Practice & Observation School, also called the Training School at the State Normal College from 1896-1905. She was the teaching supervisor for grades 2, 3, 4, and 5.

 Collection Overview

The Collection contains Nettie's physics class notes from 1894 and her Laboratory Manual of General Chemistry from 1893. The Laboratory Manual is called the Laboratory Manual of General Chemistry by R.P. Williams and was published in 1893 in Boston, U.S.A. by Ginn & Company, Publishers. The notes and Laboratory Manual contain handwritten notes and hand-drawn illustrations. The scrapbook is called Among My Souvenirs and contains programs such as the Class Song of 1895, the Cornelian Reunion of 1909, Commencement Exercises of 1938, Henderson High School Commencement of 1938 and Commencement Program of 1935; photographs, postcards and newspaper clippings related to the State Normal College. It also contains autographs and comments of people she met throughout her life from 1892-1938.
