<head>Biographical Note</head>
<p>
<persname normal="Miller, Heather">Heather Ross Miller</persname> was born in <geogname>Albemarle, North Carolina</geogname> in <date>1939</date>. She received an undergraduate degree from <corpname>Woman's College</corpname> (now the <corpname>University of North Carolina at Greensboro</corpname>) in 1961 and an MFA in <subject>Creative Writing</subject> in 1969. She received fellowships from the <corpname>National Endowment for the Arts</corpname> in 1968/69 and again in 1973/74. Inspired by the teaching of <persname normal="Jarrell, Randall">Randall Jarrell</persname>, Miller became an <occupation>instructor</occupation> in reading and writing.
