<persname normal= "Latham, Edythe">Edythe Latham</persname> was born in <geogname>Greensboro</geogname> and graduated from <corpname>Woman's College</corpname> (now <corpname>UNCG</corpname>) in 1936. She married Bertram Bloch, story editor for the Twentieth Century Fox movie studio. They lived in New York City. <subject>"The Sounding Brass"</subject> was Latham's first novel.

<head>Collection Overview</head>
<p>
This collection contains the original manuscript of <title render="doublequote">The Sounding Brass</title> (published by Little, Brown, and Boston in 1953) printer's copy. The original manuscript is in typescript with handwritten notations and is 646 numbered leaves long. Also in the collection are Galley-proofs with handwritten corrections, portraits, clippings of articles about Latham's work, and a copy in manuscript of the title page.
