About Manuscripts

A manuscript collection is a body of historical materials relating to an individual, family, or organization. At UNCG, we concentrate on acquiring, preserving, and providing access to collections that document the cultural, business and political heritage of the North Carolina Piedmont Triad.

Recent notable additions to our collections include the literary manuscripts of UNCG alumna and mystery maven Margaret Maron, the extensive theater collection of Professor Robert Hansen, and the official papers of Congressman Howard Coble.

Our collections have been used by researchers writing books, dissertations and term papers; university departments hosting exhibits for campus events; producers of educational television programs and magazine articles; and members of the general public with a personal interest in the people and organizations whose history we house.

As of August 2007, we hold 274 manuscript collections, comprising well over 1,000 linear feet of shelf space. These collections consist of papers, books, photographs, artwork, audiovisual materials, artifacts, textiles, and various other formats.
