During World War II, men were not the only ones asked to serve their country.
About 2% of the United States fighting force during the war was made up of women, many of whom were sent overseas.
This project offers just a glimpse into the experiences these women had while serving overseas.

The following recordings are drawn from oral histories in the Women Veterans Historical Collection in Jackson Library at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. To listen to the interviews, which have been edited for length and cohesiveness, hold the mouse of a location and then select “Listen to the interview.” You may also choose to view the transcript for the audio file or the finding aid for the entire manuscript collection.

All audio files are in MP3 format and require the appropriate software. If your computer is not already equipped with one, you can download various MP3 players, including Windows Media Player, Real Player, and Quick Time.
