Altheian Society Pin

Date: 1927

Material: Gold, pearls, and onyx [other pins of this variety contained small rubies]

Size: Approximately 1˝ x 1cm.

Acquisition: Gift of owner, Juanita Scott (C.O. 1927). Received May, 1985.

Description: 'Shield' shaped pin with black onyx center stone. Letter “A,” symbolic sword, and “eye of God” in gold, surrounded by small pearls make up the front of the pin. Rubies that would normal have been on the sword hilt are missing. During the early days of the college, there were 4 such societies on campus: Adelphian, Altheian, Dikean, and Cornelian. Each society had unique pins which were issued to their members. (UA14.1.079)
