Mr. Selby Bateman and Mr. Ned Cline, both of Greensboro, were elected co-chairs of the Friends of the UNCG Libraries for 2004-2005 at the organization's annual meeting on March 4. Selby Bateman is a senior editor with Pace Communications in Greensboro. He received an M.A. in American history from UNCG in 1975 and is a graduate of the Bryan School of Business's Program for Management Development. He holds a B.A. in political science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Ned Cline is an award-winning journalist and former managing editor of the News & Record in Greensboro. A political science graduate of Catawba College, he studied for one year as a Nieman Fellow at Harvard University, concentrating on southern politics. He is the author of Adding Value: The Joseph M. Bryan Story from Poverty to Philanthropy and Stanley Frank: Greensboro's Quiet Benefactor.

Elected to the UNCG Friends of the Library Board of Directors for three-year terms were Kate Barrett, Jewell Cooper, Quinn Dalton, Betty Hicks, Jim Schlosser and Pam Sprinkle, all of Greensboro.

The Friends of the UNCG Libraries was founded in 1959 and has supported Jackson Library's growth and development since that time. Jackson Library was named a Literary Landmark by the Friends of Libraries USA in 2002, the first such library in North Carolina to be so designated. In 2001, the Friends were instrumental in supporting the acquisition of the Library's one-millionth volume.
