If a picture is worth a thousand words, Library friends attending this year's annual meeting will be filled with interesting and informative prose.

One of North Carolina's best-known public and civic leaders will present the program at the Friends of the UNCG Libraries dinner on April 1, 2003. Hugh Morton will tell the story of our state's history for the last 50 years as seen through the lens of his camera.

Morton, well known and respected across this state and beyond for his diligent efforts on behalf of the environment, tourism promotion, and photography, will be the featured speaker at the annual dinner in Cone Ballroom in the newly renovated Elliott University Center on the UNCG campus. Morton will present a visual history of North Carolina through photographs that he has been producing for more than a half century. His photographs and presentation will cover politics, university development, sports, and the environment. UNC Press will publish a collection of his photographs next fall. The presentation at the Friends dinner will provide a preview of this forthcoming book.

Morton, for decades a force for good in North Carolina, is owner and developer of Grandfather Mountain and was the driving force behind the restoration and public display of the Battleship North Carolina at Wilmington. He has been one of this state's longest and most dedicated environmentalists and civic promoters.
