Distance Education Services
Books
If a book you need for a class is currently unavailable, you may place a hold on it by clicking on the Request link at the end of the record. Once your book arrives back in the library, a staff member will notify you.
Books in our collection may be sent by regular mail to Distance Education students. To request a book, fill out an Interlibrary Loan form and indicate that you are a DE student. If you have questions, call the Interlibrary Loan office at 334-5849.
E-books
The Library offers access to over 300,000 electronic book titles, including titles specifically in support of distance programs, popular titles such as the Dummies and Idiot's Guide series, and titles from dozens of scholarly publishers. After you create your account, you can "check out" these books and read them online. To find the books you need, use our Online Catalog.
Interlibrary Loan
If a book is in our collection, we can check it out and mail it to you; you are responsible for mailing it back. If a book is NOT in our collection, we suggest that you use the interlibrary loan service at your public library to request it, since mailing times and short loan periods make shipping ILL books to you impractical.
Articles
Journal, newspaper, and magazine articles are not in our online catalog. Instead, you will need to search in one of our
400+ electronic databases to find articles. Looking through our
Subject Guides will help you narrow down your search to the databases most likely to have information related to your topic. To get access to these resources from home, you will be asked to log in with your UNCG ID number.
The research tutorial can also assist you in finding scholarly/peer-reviewed articles. Some databases have a box you can check to provide only peer-reviewed results.
Journal Finder
If you know the title of the journal for which you are looking, and the full-text article is not available from a particular database, search for over 35,000 electronic journal titles through Journal Finder to see if immediate online access is available.
Ingenta
You can get a specific article free of charge through the Ingenta Document Delivery service. You will need to Create an account before using this service.
Infotrieve
To get a document you have been unable to find other places, submit a request through our document delivery service, Infotrieve.
Interlibrary Loan
If an article you need is not available in full-text or in a journal in our collection, you may order it through our Interlibrary Loan program. The article may take anywhere from 4 to 10 days to deliver. Be sure to indicate that you are a Distance Education student.
