Please Note:

The UNCG Libraries have canceled UNCG's subscription to the Web of Science, effective June 30, 2014. We have instead subscribed to Scopus, which is a similar citation database. Scopus indexes twice as many titles as Web of Science, and includes over 99% of the titles that are indexed by the Web of Science. We will also lose Journal Citation Reports, but many faculty currently use Google Scholar and Eigenfactor for citation analysis. We plan to create a research guide for assistance with these sources. We also plan to create a guide to Scopus and will offer training as needed.

The Libraries were already considering a move to Scopus. But we had to make the move quite suddenly because, at the last moment, the Web of Science decided to increase our renewal cost by more than 10% in a year when we were already having to cut our collections by more than 10% (for more, see the library budget website). We deemed this increase unacceptable because

Many other libraries (including ECU) have recently made the move from Web of Science to Scopus. We believe Scopus will serve the needs of our faculty, while saving UNCG a significant amount of money.

ENDNOTE: We are continuing our subscription to EndNote Online until June 2015. If you have stored citations on EndNote Online, they will disappear when our subscription ends on July 1, 2015. If you need assistance or have questions on downloading these to another system, contact Mary Krautter at mmkrautt@uncg.edu.

If you have questions or concerns, please contact your liaison, or Beth Bernhardt (brbernha@uncg.edu) or Tim Bucknall (bucknall@uncg.edu)
