About Sanborn Maps

Provides 11,173 large-scale maps of 158 cities and towns in North Carolina. The maps can be viewed in different sizes and scales.
The Sanborn maps were created for fire insurance companies. The maps are drawn at a scale of 50 feet to an inch.
The maps can be useful for urban studies, social history, architecture, historic preservation, geography, genealogy, etc.
