How to find the full text of items listed in the ERIC database

There are two types of materials in the ERIC database. When you find an item in ERIC that you would like to see, look for a string of 6 numbers preceded by an EJ or ED (this is usually in the 1st or 2nd line of the record).

  1. ERIC Journals begin with EJ followed by a six digit number. Example EJ213456. To find the full text, note the title of the journal and check to see if it is available via Jackson Library.
  2. ERIC Documents begin with ED followed by a six digit number. Example ED201032. The full text of about 80% of the documents published in the last 3 years is currently available online (and some older documents are also available) through EDRS. If you use the WebSpirs version of ERIC, the presence of an http entry in the full record indicates online availability through the EDRS link on this page. Example DL: http://orders.edrs.com/members/sp.cfm?AN=ED409862. You may also access the the full text of many ERIC documents from EBSCOhost ERIC. Most ERIC documents not available online are available on microfiche in Jackson Library and paper copies can be made.
