JOAN DARLING: Emmy and Director’s Guild Award-winning actress and director, Joan created the “Directing the Actor” workshop for Robert Redford’s Sundance Institute, where she has served as creative advisor for the past 18 years. Regarded as one of the finest acting coaches in the business, her many television directing credits include M*A*S*H, Mary Tyler Moore, Magnum PI, and Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman. (She was the director of the Mary Tyler Moore episode “Chuckles Bites the Dust”, considered a classic in the history of sitcoms.) Her numerous acting credits include playing Viola in Twelfth Night at the American Shakespeare Festival at Stratford, CT; several television series; and she appeared for four years in the award-winning improvisational production, "The Premise" with Gene Hackman, Buck Henry, and George Segal. She has taught at UCLA, USC, American Film Institute, and The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Observers welcome. Ms. Darling continues work with 1st year MFA and Junior BFA actors.
