Mission Statement and Goals
To advance its mission within the next decade, the goals of the University Libraries are:
- Organization and Administration
- To provide effective organization and administration of all library resources and services.
- Collections
- To provide a collection management program responsive to the goals of the University.
- To provide the collections appropriate in depth and scope which are necessary for undergraduate education.
- To develop and provide access to the resources necessary for the support of the graduate, professional and research programs offered by the University.
- To provide within the capabilities of a medium-sized university library the collections and related facilities for the needs of a research-oriented faculty.
- To provide rapid, efficient access to external resources for the extended research needs of faculty and students.
- Services
- To provide competent, well-trained professional and support staff sufficient to meet the needs of our primary users.
- To provide information to our primary users.
- To encourage the development of research and information handling skills through a variety of formal and informal instructional programs for our primary users.
- To encourage efficient access to Jackson Library's collections and resources through accurate and appropriate tools, including print and non-print catalogs, indexes, bibliographies, and databases.
These goals were approved by Department and Division Heads on 12 February 1991.
